Storytelling is a powerful human experience that sometimes is lost in our quest to read books to young children. Research on the benefits of storytelling include promotion of speech and language development,  literacy, memory, relationships, emotional expression and math skills. Participants will learn to adapt stories to include young children with a variety of developmental delays.  Participants will leave with  one story for immediate use suitable for infants, toddlers or preschoolers.

Katie Shea taught early childhood and special education for students before she became the mother of child with developmental delays. After enjoying a warm and supportive experience receiving Early Intervention services with her son, she decided to become a Developmental Therapist. Inspired by a storytelling great-grandmother, Katie has adapted stories to connect with her own children as well as in the classrooms and homes of the families she visits each week.

This seminar is co-sponsored by the Center for Practice Excellence at JCFS Chicago.  CEUs are available. This training has been approved for Early Intervention credits: 2 hours in Intervention.
